Off to Parliament with IMCA's own Bill

Following the Education Reform Act of 1988, IMCA had perforce to reorganise its global accreditations. [ The new structure announced in July 1988 by the Registrar is shown and has continued for 15 years }

One IMCA Strategy prior to the passage of the Act ( The ERA 1988 as it is known ) was to Petition the Secretary of State for Education Kenneth now Lord Baker, the Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher now Baroness Thatcher, and the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry already at that time Lord Young. (Lord Young had the year previous opened new MCB University Press offices in Bradford.) The petition submitted is attached here. Today’s Treasurer at the Canadian School of Management Bryan Wills rode jump seat as the Petition was delivered across Whitehall and Downing Street on a Sunday morning. The Secretary of State responded by suggesting to the University of Buckingham that they should work with IMCA but the University Senate for the first but not the last time rejected the suggestion.

The second strategy after the passage of the Act was also unsuccessful despite the support of Michael Morris MP later Lord Naesby, a former research partner at the University of Bradford subsequently Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and a Privy Councillor. The day the top team went to Westminster was captured on St Stephen’s Green as shown. All the names are to be found on the attachment and the reason everyone was in town was to our very own Private Bill in the House of Lords. Her Majesty’s Government for reasons best known to themselves opposed it.
